CATCH A CURE
FOR CANCER
Fishing Tournament was started in early 2000 by Jerry and Carri Schlief
who wanted to host a fishing tournament that could raise money for
those with cancer. After speaking with the American Cancer
Society, they chose to use funds that they raised to help support Camp Hobe, a
special summer camp designed for children currently being treated for
cancer, as well as their siblings.
Camp Hobe was created in 1985 and is sponsored by Primary Children's Medical Center.
Camp Hobe Inc. is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt non profit organization based in
Salt Lake City.
Camp Hobe is designed to give cancer patients an opportunity to share
experiences with other children with cancer. It is also
designed
to give siblings, who are often forgotten in the cancer experience, a
chance to share experiences with other siblings.
The mission of Camp Hobe is to create an atmosphere that enhances self
esteem, fosters independence and friendship, and create a sense of
belonging.
Jerry and Carri Schlief believed that a fishing tournament designed to
raise awareness and also money for Camp Hobe, would be a successful and
rewarding experience for everyone involved. With the aid and
support of the Utah Bass Federation,
Tournaments Inc. and JC Expeditions, they created a premier first class
event that is managed by fishing professionals and enthusiasts who
donate their time and expertise.
The annual bass and walleye fishing tournament has grown significantly
since the first tournament was held at Starvation Reservoir in Duchesne
UT in June of 2000. Through 2007, over $88,000
has been raised for Camp Hobe. Perhaps more importantly, each
event provides immeasurable rewards and many favorable memories for
families, friends and fellow anglers.
Jerry and Carri Schlief would like to express their gratitude and
thanks to each of the corporate and individual sponsors who have
supported the events over the last six years. They have an
open
invitation for anyone to join them at the next CATCH A CURE
FOR CANCER Fishing Tournament. Enjoy a day of
fun, sun and fishing.
