The Utah Bass Federation will be hosting the Eighth Annual Catch-A-Cure for Cancer Bass/Walleye Tournament and Fundraiser, on Saturday, June 21, 2008, at Starvation Reservoir. Continuing the tradition started by Jerry and Carri Schlief, anglers participate in a one-day bass/walleye fishing tournament. Afterward, anglers and the public are invited to a barbeque and charity raffle. As in years past, all proceeds from the tournament and raffle ticket sales will be donated to Camp Hobé, a summer camp for children with cancer. The 2007 Catch a Cure contributed over $18,000 for the camp.
 
The format for the tournament is the same as in years past. Two-angler teams can sign up to compete in the bass tournament, the walleye tournament or both. Fishing either the bass or walleye tournament costs $125 per team, or $250 to compete in both. In addition to the tournament fee, anglers may also choose to participate in option pots for big fish and mixed couples.
 
This event has established a strong tradition for being a low-pressure day of fun, good times and generosity. Winners typically donate their prize checks to Camp Hobé, and anglers often fish with their spouses or other family members. It’s a great environment to experience tournament fishing for the first time.
 
After the tournament, at 2:30 p.m., anglers and the public can enjoy a barbeque provided by Robertson’s Marine and prepared by A Classic Choice Catering. This is included with the tournament entry fee or $5 a head for the public.
 
After the barbeque there will be tons of great prizes at the raffle. All of the money collected from the fundraiser goes to Camp Hobé. If you can’t make it to the tournament, you can contact George (see below) or purchase raffle tickets from the many volunteers who will be selling them in the weeks before.
 
There are other ways to give, as well. Anyone can make a donation to Camp Hobé or sponsor a team. Make a donation of $300, which is the team entry to compete in both for both bass and walleye and put in for option pots for both. If your team wins, you win a $100 gift certificate to Sportsman’s Warehouse; if your team takes second you win $75 gift certificate; a third place finish gets you a $50 gift certificate.  Team signups will be posted on www.utahbassfederation.org
